AIGA ‘My Favorite Medalist’ Competition

For the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) “My Favorite Medalist” competition, I was inspired by the iconic Ruth Ansel who was co-art director at Harper’s Bazaar in the 1960s. Ansel’s “Untitled” poster, created in 2008, originally displaying the word “Freedom” with variations in typeface and size.

I decided to pay homage to the icon’s distinct eye and formidable design aesthetic by recreating the print with her name and words beginning in ‘R’ that represent the designer.

This piece was selected as a winning design by esteemed graphic artists and AIGA judges on May 12, 2016 and is displayed here.
